Our in-house investment experts manage more than £290 billion of combined shareholder and policyholder assets.1 The team’s activities support advisers, paraplanners, employee benefit consultants and corporate advisers to help their clients.

There are many different roles across our specialist sub-teams, but everyone working in the function shares a purpose: targeting strong investment returns for clients while following a robust governance framework. We want to be a best–in–class asset management services provider in the UK and Europe.

Below, we describe our asset management team’s three main areas.

Policyholder Investment Office (PIO)

Our Policyholder Investment Office is responsible for ensuring that all policyholder assets (including unit-linked, with-profit and Phoenix Unit Trust Managers’ collectives) deliver optimal risk-adjusted returns for each policyholder.

PIO has several functions that work closely together to help achieve strategic goals.

Our PIO strategic functions include:

  • Investment strategy
  • Portfolio management
  • Research and selection
  • Sustainability strategy
  • Stewardship

The PIO strategic functions are supported by three key areas: authorised fund management, fund solutions, and commercial delivery.  You can find out more about the PIO senior leaders responsible for these functions here

Shareholder Investment Office (SIO)

Focused on positioning the shareholder investment portfolio, aiming to maximise returns so that Phoenix Group can meet its liabilities, including paying customers’ pensions. This team’s work includes sourcing new investment opportunities.

Chief Operating Office (COO)

Works across liquid and illiquid assets through middle- and back-office operations. It’s involved in supporting all teams across the asset management function, to ensure strategic alignment plus operational effectiveness and efficiency.
