At the Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement, we’ve long championed the role of part-time and flexible working in helping people stay in work, especially when life throws up challenges like caring responsibilities or long-term health conditions. Our collaboration with Timewise has already brought powerful stories to light through the Part-time Works podcast and our previous blogs, Work That Works and Keeping Britain Working. Now, we’re taking the next step.
Launching the Part-Time Works Social Media Campaign – October 1st
We’re proud to announce that our partnership with Timewise continues with the launch of the Part-Time Works social media campaign, kicking off on October 1st 2025 and running until the end of the year.
This campaign invites part-time workers across the UK to share their stories on LinkedIn – highlighting how their working patterns help them balance responsibilities at home and at work. Whether you're working three days a week, job-sharing, or flexing your hours around school runs or medical appointments, we would love for you to join the campaign.
Why Visibility Matters
Part-time work is not niche. It’s not second-best. It’s not a compromise. It’s a reality for 8 million people in the UK – that’s one in four workers. And yet, part-time roles remain underrepresented in job ads and misunderstood in workplace culture.
We want to change that.
This campaign is about visibility. It’s about showing that people across all sectors and career stages are working part-time – and thriving. From those navigating complex responsibilities to those seeking better balance, part-time work is enabling success in a modern world where career paths are evolving and working lives are longer and more multifaceted than ever before.
Because when people see others thriving in part-time roles, it sends a powerful message: You could do this too.
How You Can Get Involved
From October 1st:
- Share your story on LinkedIn about your part-time or flexible working pattern – even if it varies.
- Add a “Part-Time Works” swoosh to your profile picture to show your support.
- Join our cascade of posts throughout October, November, and December – pick the month that suits you.
- Pass it on – if you know someone who works part-time and is thriving, invite them to join the campaign.
And if you’re not currently working part-time but support it – maybe you manage part-time team members or have worked part-time in the past – we’d love to hear from you too.
Why This Matters
Part-time work is often a lifeline. It helps people stay in work when they’re managing health conditions, caring for loved ones, or simply seeking better balance. It’s also a smart business move – unlocking talent, boosting retention, and creating more inclusive workplaces.
